"The Secret to Success in a
Challenge is Not Giving Up"
Theodore Rubin, a psychoanalyst, once said, "The only key to success in a challenge is simply never giving up." Many of us may carry a vague sense of burden and fear when faced
with challenges. As the saying goes, "Well begun is half done", perhaps starting is half the battle. If you're hesitating over the word 'challenge,' why not take the first
step? To succeed in a challenge, all you need to do is start—and not give up midway.
Let's delve into the diverse thoughts and stories of SNU people on ambitious challenges.
Designer Donghoon Sohn’s Roll Series. Sponge can be easily bent or compressed to alter its shape, and Sohn believes that the U-shape most effectively showcases the material's properties and sculptural potential.
Donghoon Sohn (Ph.D. in Design, Seoul National University) is the founder and designer of Atelier SOHN. He observes the materials and forms around us to identify the
attributes and variables of objects, defining the areas where a designer can intervene. The cover image features the <Roll Series Chair>, part of his
Roll Series.
The Roll Series originated from study on the elastic properties of sponge. Sohn collected discarded sponges, particularly from old sofas—some of which had been
damaged
by his own dog. Through the Roll Series, he explores and presents the new sculptural possibilities of recycled industrial materials.
