Coexistence with Earth

“The era of global warming has ended. The era of global boiling has arrived,” warned the Secretary-General of the United Nations recently, pointing out that the climate crisis is reaching its limit. As he cautions, we are now experiencing an array of abnormal weather events, such as heat waves, heavy rains, heavy snow, and cold surges. Weather issues are not the only problem, however. All environmental challenges—including air, water, ocean, soil, and plastic pollution, deforestation, and extinction of flora and fauna species—are interconnected, and these problems are continually intensifying. Can humans continue to coexist with the planet? We met a variety of people at SNU who are dedicated to ensuring the coexistence of humans and the Earth in their roles as researchers, entrepreneurs, students, and activists.

Human Faces Made of Plants and Animals, Hoseob Yoon

Human face made up with animals and plants, inspired by Jang Il-soon's poem "I Never realized that you were me". It indicates that we can fundamentally coexist by noticing that you are me and I am you, beyond talking about animal protection and rainforest conservation, showing kindness and respect. Hoseob Yoon, a South Korean graphic artist who has devoted his career and his life to protecting the environment in art and design demonstrations, exhibits, lectures and one-on-one visits with student and members of the community. He graduated from Seoul National University College of Fine Arts.
